The shoreline of Lake of the Ozarks stretches much further than 1,150 miles which is actually longer than the coast line of the entire state of California. Not too bad for a lake that was created by the construction of Bagnell Dam. Because of the vast coastlines and open water space, many visitors as well as residents venture to the lake to enjoy a nice evening or relaxing weekend off. It is not uncommon to find people boating, water-skiing, scuba-diving, camping, swimming and so much more!! Lake of the Ozarks is very popular among local fisherman too, and we even have quite a few out of state visitors coming in for their chance at the local fishing game.
Lake of the Ozarks State Park is the largest state park in Missouri stretching for approximately 17,203 acres. The park was originally established soon after the Great Depression and following the damming of Osage River. During World War II, the area was turned over to the state around 1946. Lake of the Ozarks State Park is also a very popular area for visitors to swim, boat, fish or just enjoy the natural beauty in the park. Other recreational activities available to park guest are: camping, hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. The park also provides an educational tool for people wanting to learn more about the environment of the Northern Ozarks. The park itself is located in an area known as Osage River Hills which is known for its heavily wooded areas and amazing cave formations. The hills within Lake of the Ozarks State Park are covered with oak-hickory forests, Savannah trees, colorful flowers and all types of prairie grass.
